Great Movies

I think great movies pull the viewer into the world. They have a solid plot, relatable characters, great acting, semi-believable graphics, and I think that they do something special or unique in their film. A good example, I think, is Star Wars. Nothing like Star Wars had ever been tackled in the film industry. CGI didn't really exist and a story like that had not been told outside of animation. The graphics in the movie are cheesy today but still real enough for the viewer to decide to appreciate it for what it is. The acting is great, it was Harrison Ford's break out film. No one had ever heard of him so he wasn't on the first poster. He made it on the others though, because the public loved him. He then went on to film the highly successful Indian Jones Trilogy. Star Wars is a film that people
can watch and enjoy even in today's world of very believable CGI. It transcends generations and is going to be around for awhile. It has leaked very recognizable characters like Darth Vader and Han Solo out into the world and it became part of American culture. Light Sabers are part of childhood and there is always a Darth Vader costume for Halloween. People haven't forgotten about Star Wars and I don't think they ever will. James Cameron's Avatar is another good example of a great movie. It creates a wonderful world with original creatures and its own language. The characters are great and though the over all plot is serious it has lots of humor thrown in. It is something that people are drawn into and they get connected to the characters. Lord of the Rings is another great movie. It follows the book wonderfully well and tells a great story. I think great movies let you believe in another world for a while. They tell a good story, one worth getting passionate about.
